Pink Floyd

Quando pensiamo ai Pink Floyd, è quasi inevitabile immaginare paesaggi sonori ampi e atmosfere che ci trasportano. Fin dai loro esordi a Londra nel 1965, con Syd Barrett alla guida, la band si distinse per aver superato le strutture convenzionali del rock. Le loro prime composizioni, come i singoli "Arnold Layne" e "See Emily Play" del 1967, insieme all’album di debutto The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, mostravano già quella propensione verso l’esperimentazione e il psichedelico. L’arrivo di David Gilmour alla fine del 1967, dopo la partenza di Barrett per motivi di salute, consolidò una formazione che, con Nick Mason alla batteria e Richard Wright alle tastiere, affiancato da Roger Waters al basso, avrebbe gettato le basi per un’evoluzione sonora affascinante.

Fu negli anni ’70 che Roger Waters assunse un ruolo centrale nella scrittura dei testi e nella concezione degli album, guidando la band attraverso una serie di capolavori che definirono il rock progressivo. Dischi come The Dark Side of the Moon (1973), Wish You Were Here (1975), Animals (1977) e The Wall (1979) non solo raggiunsero un enorme successo commerciale, ma esplorarono anche temi profondi e complessi, accompagnati da un’innovazione sonora che divenne il loro marchio distintivo. Il modo in cui concepivano i loro album, pensati come esperienze complete piuttosto che semplici raccolte di canzoni, e le loro elaborate esibizioni dal vivo segnarono una svolta nella concezione di un album rock.

Biografia

Nonostante le tensioni interne che portarono all’abbandono di Wright nel 1981 e poi di Waters nel 1985, Gilmour e Mason portarono avanti il lascito dei Pink Floyd. Con il ritorno di Wright, registrarono album come A Momentary Lapse of Reason (1987) e The Division Bell (1994), entrambi sostenuti da tour di grande scala. La reunion di Gilmour, Mason e Wright insieme a Waters per una performance all’evento Live 8 nel 2005 fu un momento significativo, soprattutto dopo la scomparsa di Barrett nel 2006 e di Wright nel 2008. L’ultimo album in studio della band, The Endless River (2014), fu costruito con materiale inedito delle sessioni di The Division Bell, a dimostrazione della persistenza della loro ricerca sonora. Nel 2022, la band pubblicò il brano "Hey, Hey, Rise Up!" come espressione artistica in risposta a eventi globali.
