Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan, born Robert Allen Zimmerman in 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota, established himself on the music scene of the 1960s. His initial offering, rooted in folk, was soon enriched with a literary and poetic depth that distinguished him. The lyrics of his songs, laden with social, political, and philosophical influences, broke with the conventions of pop music of the era, connecting fully with the emerging counterculture. His first album, Bob Dylan, released in 1962, featured traditional folk and blues material. However, it was with The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan (1963) that his career took off, including pieces like "Girl from the North Country" and "A Hard Rain's a-Gonna Fall," which adapted pre-existing folk melodies. Songs like "Blowin' in the Wind" (1963) and "The Times They Are a-Changin'" (1964) became anthems for the civil rights and anti-war movements.

A turning point came between 1965 and 1966, when Dylan generated debate by incorporating electrically amplified rock instrumentation on albums such as Bringing It All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited (both 1965), and Blonde on Blonde (1966). His six-minute single, "Like a Rolling Stone" (1965), significantly expanded the creative and commercial boundaries of popular music. After a motorcycle accident in 1966, Dylan retired from touring for seven years. During this period, he recorded an extensive collection of songs with musicians from The Band, material that would eventually form the album The Basement Tapes (1975). In parallel, he explored sounds closer to country and rural themes in works like John Wesley Harding (1967), Nashville Skyline (1969), and New Morning (1970).

Beyond music, he has ventured into writing, publishing ten books of paintings and drawings since 1994, with his works exhibited in major art galleries. His legacy extends through accolades such as an Academy Award and ten Grammy Awards, in addition to distinctions like the Kennedy Center Honors in 1997 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012.
