The story behind

Turkey Chase, according to DoReSol

The instrumental piece *Turkey Chase* is one of Bob Dylan's contributions to the soundtrack of the film *Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid*. Released in 1973, this soundtrack marked the artist's first work of this kind and accompanied the film directed by Sam Peckinpah. Dylan himself had a role in the film, playing the character "Alias". The music on the album was directly inspired by the film's scenes and atmosphere, and much of it is instrumental. One of the best-known songs that emerged from this collaboration was *Knockin' on Heaven's Door*, which was well-received on charts on both sides of the Atlantic. The album itself reached number 16 in the United States and 29 in the United Kingdom, and was certified gold by the RIAA.

Dylan's connection to the film was forged through Rudy Wurlitzer, the screenwriter, who already knew the musician. Wurlitzer asked Dylan to contribute some songs for the film. Dylan presented the track *Billy* to director Peckinpah, who was impressed. The production of this soundtrack, which includes *Turkey Chase*, was handled by Gordon Carroll. The full album was released on July 13, 1973, under the Columbia Records label.
