The story behind
The instrumental theme *River Theme* is taken from the soundtrack that Bob Dylan composed for the film *Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid*. This piece, lasting just one minute and twenty-eight seconds, was recorded with engineering by Dan Wallin and production by Gordon Carroll. The album, released on July 13, 1973, by Columbia Records, aimed to capture the essence of the story directed by Sam Peckinpah, in which Dylan himself participated by playing the character "Alias".
The composition of *River Theme* stems from the commission that screenwriter Rudy Wurlitzer gave Dylan to contribute some songs to the film. The album containing this piece also includes the renowned theme *Knockin' on Heaven's Door*, which became a transatlantic hit. This album, which reached number 16 in the United States and 29 in the United Kingdom, was certified gold by the RIAA.
