Andrés Calamaro

Andrés Calamaro is a musician who, from a very young age, demonstrated a deep connection with sound creation. His approach to music began with a bandoneon at the age of eight, but soon the electric guitar and piano captured his attention. It was with the latter instrument that he learned to play fluently, developing a versatility that would lead him to explore diverse genres. His first recording steps were taken in Uruguay, as a keyboardist for the group Raíces, an experience that marked his official debut in 1978 with the album B.O.V. Dombe.

After that initial phase, Calamaro became involved in projects that reflected his musical curiosity. He formed the "Chorizo Colorado Blues Band" with his friend Augusto "Gringui" Herrera, and later explored a direction closer to rock with "Elmer's Band", adding Eduardo Cano on bass. His skill as a session musician led him to collaborate with artists such as Los Hermanos Makaroff and Julián Petrina. He also had a stint with "The Morgan", alongside Héctor Zeta Bosio and Gustavo Cerati, a band that would later evolve into what would be known as Soda Stereo, although Calamaro would no longer be part of that final stage.

More about Andrés Calamaro

Biography

Miguel Abuelo's call in 1981 for a new project was a turning point. Thus, the new formation of Los Abuelos de la Nada was conceived, a collective that included musicians such as Cachorro López, Daniel Melingo, and Gustavo Bazterrica. During this period, Calamaro not only contributed his talent as a keyboardist but also began to capture his own compositions. Songs like «Sin gamulán» and «Mil horas» began to resonate, showing his facet as an author. This stage culminated with the release of his first solo album, Hotel Calamaro, in 1984, produced by Charly García, and the last album by Los Abuelos de la Nada, Himno de mi corazón, that same year.
