The story behind

Andrés Calamaro crafted "Los aviones" with an air that seems to have escaped from a street rehearsal: the song progresses as if each chord breathes between laughter and silence, as if the guitar and keyboard play at chasing each other without ever colliding. The track doesn’t sound like polished studio work, but rather like a moment where music is made in the air, with that blend of nostalgia and boldness that comes naturally to Calamaro. The bass weaves lines that tangle with the drums in a rhythm that never stays still, and the voice, between whispers and restrained shouts, tells something that feels personal yet universal at the same time. The track was born amid the whirlwind of projects surrounding Calamaro in the 80s in Uruguay. Before recording it, he had already been part of blues bands, rock groups, and even bands that imitated The Platters, but here it’s clear the sound was already slipping from his grasp: the mix of keyboards with electric guitars, that bar-song vibe that never fully commits, is pure raw evolution. The song lasts 4 minutes and 21 seconds, but it feels longer because every note seems to carry its own weight. It’s no coincidence that, years later, this kind of loose melodies would end up defining his style: here, you can already hear the Calamaro who doesn’t need rules to sound complete.
