The story behind

Socio de la soledad, according to DoReSol

The first time I heard Socio de la soledad, I got hooked on that piano riff that sounds like a whisper with legs, the one that keeps coming back unannounced and makes you hum it without realizing. It’s not a song that hits you with an epic chorus or a rhythm that forces you to tap your feet; rather, it’s something that sneaks inside you and stays there, like an uncomfortable but loyal partner. The piano doesn’t sound clean or polished: it has a rough edge, as if the keys were slightly out of tune on purpose, giving it the vibe of a song played among friends in a late-night bar. Calamaro’s voice doesn’t try to dominate; it flows naturally, almost effortlessly, as if he were sharing a secret in a hushed tone.

This song was born at a time when Calamaro had already played in half a dozen different bands, from rock groups to acts that imitated The Platters, including fleeting projects like Elmer's Band or Stress —where he crossed paths with Gustavo Cerati and Héctor Zeta Bosio, before the latter two formed what was to come—. Socio de la soledad wasn’t an immediate hit, but it was a track many musicians in his circle knew and covered in their rehearsals. It was recorded in a borrowed studio, with equipment that wasn’t the best of the moment, and it came out with that raw sound that would end up being its trademark. It wasn’t aiming for a radio-ready sound, but rather something that could exist in an attic with dim light and plenty of desire to play without filters.
