The story behind
Jugar con fuego, according to DoReSol
Playing with fire sounds like one of those songs that grab you without warning. It’s not just the catchy rhythm or the melody that lingers in your head, but that mix of urgency and playfulness from the very first chord. The bassline traces a path that seems to break free from convention, as if the track were about to shatter its own mold without ever losing its way. Calamaro’s voice enters with a naturalness that’s deceptive: it doesn’t try to impress, just to tell something that’s already there, as if the lyrics and music had been waiting for the perfect moment to come together.
The story behind this song has more to do with chance than with a carefully laid plan. Calamaro had already been moving between bands and projects, playing in studios as a session musician and experimenting with different sounds. Those years in Uruguay, where he recorded his first album as a keyboardist in Raíces, were when he unknowingly shaped his own style. Later, upon joining Stress—the lineup that would later evolve into Los Estereotipos—the musical atmosphere already smelled of something new. The song was recorded at a time when ideas flowed without fixed labels, and that’s evident: it doesn’t sound like a track designed for success, but like a song born from trial, error, and moving forward. Exactly three minutes long, yet enough to leave a mark.
