The story behind
Mi propia trampa, according to DoReSol
My Own Trap sounds like a dry guitar riff that repeats insistently, as if each note were a warning the narrator hurls at himself. There are no frills here: the song moves forward with a rhythm reminiscent of old blues, where voice and instrument mercilessly challenge each other. The lyrics, short and direct, play with the irony of falling into the very trap one set for oneself, and that simplicity is what makes it catchy. It’s not a song that invites you to close your eyes and dream, but to open your ears and feel the weight of every word.Calamaro recorded it at a time when Argentine rock was seeking to reinvent itself, just as the country emerged from a dictatorship and music became a space of freedom.
Before Andrés Calamaro became a household name in the genre, he had already played in bands like Raíces in Uruguay, where he played keyboards, and later in fleeting formations such as the Chorizo Colorado Blues Band or Elmer's Band. But it was in Stress, the group that would later evolve into Proyecto Erekto, where he found a rawer, more direct sound. Mi propia trampa was born there, amid rehearsals and improvised tours, when the urgency to play was stronger than any plan. There’s no polished production or elaborate arrangements: just the essence of a musician who already knew that music, sometimes, is the best and worst of traps.
