The story behind

The song Hay begins with a rhythm that seems to drag, as if time itself had loosened. It's not a track that hits you at the start; instead, it gains ground slowly, almost like a whisper that gradually becomes something inevitable. The bass and drums lay down a foundation that doesn't seek attention but effortlessly holds everything together. What's most intriguing is how the guitar, rather than showing off with solos, stays in the background, as if it prefers to be part of the scenery rather than the center of focus. This gives it an air of both melancholy and everyday life, as if the lyrics were recounting something everyone has felt but no one dares to say out loud.

Calamaro recorded this track at a time when he had already spent years moving between bands and projects without staying long in any of them. Before Hay, he had been part of groups like Raíces in Uruguay, where he played keyboards, and later in formations closer to blues or rock, always exploring different paths. He even became part of what would later become Los Estereotipos, the band that ended up being key to Argentine rock. But here, in Hay, there are no pretensions: it sounds as if it were recorded between rehearsals, without aiming for a polished sound but something more organic instead. The three minutes and forty-seven seconds fly by precisely because it doesn't linger on unnecessary embellishments. It's one of those tracks you end up humming without realizing it, as if you've always known it.
