Green Day

Green Day is an American rock band that has left a significant mark on contemporary music, especially in the punk scene. Formed in 1987 in Rodeo, California, by vocalist and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong and bassist Mike Dirnt, the band added drummer Tré Cool in 1990, solidifying their classic lineup. Their first major success came with the album Dookie in 1994, which not only catapulted the band to fame but also revitalized interest in punk rock in the mainstream, selling over 20 million copies in the United States. Before adopting the name Green Day, the band was known as Sweet Children and was part of the vibrant punk scene in the San Francisco Bay Area, originating at the 924 Gilman Street club in Berkeley.

Their early days were with the independent label Lookout! Records, where they released their debut album, 39/Smooth, in 1990. Throughout their career, they have maintained a power trio structure, with Tré Cool replacing John Kiffmeyer before recording their second album, Kerplunk, in 1991. While later albums like Insomniac (1995) and Nimrod (1997) did not reach the same level of success as Dookie, they still achieved considerable recognition, with Insomniac and Nimrod reaching double platinum status.A pivotal moment in their career was the release of American Idiot in 2004, a concept album that resonated deeply with a new generation and sold six million copies in the United States.
