Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters is an American alternative rock band that originated in Seattle in 1994, created by Dave Grohl, who previously was the drummer for Nirvana. The band's name comes from the UFO sightings and aerial phenomena reported by Allied pilots during World War II, known collectively as foo fighter. Before releasing their first album in 1995, Grohl, being the only official member at that time, added bassist Nate Mendel and drummer William Goldsmith, both former members of Sunny Day Real Estate, as well as Pat Smear, who had been his tourmate in Nirvana, as guitarist to complete the lineup. The band debuted in Portland, Oregon.

During the recording of their second album, The Colour and the Shape (1997), Goldsmith left the group, and Grohl re-recorded most of the drum parts until Taylor Hawkins joined as the new drummer. Soon after, Smear also quit.Franz Stahl replaced him, but was fired before the recording of their third album, There Is Nothing Left to Lose (1999). The band continued as a trio briefly until Chris Shiflett joined as the lead guitarist after the completion of that album. In 2002, they released their fourth album, One by One. In 2005, they released the double album In Your Honor, which combined acoustic songs with heavier tracks.
