The story behind
The song *Up in Arms* has a duration of 2 minutes and 16 seconds. It was recorded at a key moment for the band, as *The Colour and the Shape*, the album to which it belongs, was the first on which the Foo Fighters worked as a full group. Unlike their 1995 debut album, which was conceived and executed entirely by Dave Grohl, for this record, guitarist Pat Smear, bassist Nate Mendel, and drummer William Goldsmith joined. The production was handled by Gil Norton, while the recording engineering involved a considerable team: Ryan Boesch, Todd Burke, Bradley Cook, Don Farwell, Ryan Hadlock, Jason Mauza, and Geoff Turner. The final mix was done by Chris Sheldon.
This album, released on May 20, 1997, by Roswell and Capitol Records, is considered a fundamental record within the post-grunge genre. The singles released from it became staples on rock radio stations in the United States. In fact, *The Colour and the Shape* ranked among the best-selling rock albums of 1997 and 1998, even being nominated for Best Rock Album at the 40th Annual Grammy Awards. The band, formed in 1994 by Dave Grohl, who had previously been the drummer for Nirvana and Scream, consolidated their sound and presence in the music scene with this work.
