The story behind
The song Enough Space, with its duration of 2 minutes and 37 seconds, emerges from a crucial moment for the Foo Fighters. It was recorded for the album The Colour and the Shape, released in May 1997. This album marked a turning point, as it was the first in which the full band participated in the recording, unlike the 1995 debut album, which was entirely the work of Dave Grohl. This change in the working dynamic was gestated after the first album received a good reception. Grohl added Pat Smear on guitar, Nate Mendel on bass, and William Goldsmith on drums, thus forming the complete lineup that would shape this sound.
The production of The Colour and the Shape, including Enough Space, was handled by Gil Norton, with recording engineering distributed among several professionals such as Ryan Boesch, Todd Burke, Bradley Cook, Don Farwell, Ryan Hadlock, Jason Mauza, and Geoff Turner. The final mix was done by Chris Sheldon. This album is considered a pillar of the post-grunge sound, and the singles released from it became staples on rock radio stations in the United States. In fact, the album performed very well commercially during 1997 and 1998, even being nominated for Best Rock Album at the Annual Grammy Awards.
