The story behind

My Poor Brain, according to DoReSol

In My Poor Brain, the Foo Fighters explore a sound that moves away from the more direct structure of their previous work. The song, with a duration of 3:33, was recorded with the participation of the full band, something that had not happened on their 1995 debut album, where Dave Grohl handled all the writing and recording. This change marked a turning point for the band, allowing for a more collaborative working dynamic in the studio.

The production of My Poor Brain was handled by Gil Norton, and it featured a team of recording engineers that included Ryan Boesch, Todd Burke, Bradley Cook, Don Farwell, Ryan Hadlock, Jason Mauza, and Geoff Turner. The final mix was done by Chris Sheldon. This album, The Colour and the Shape, released on May 20, 1997, by Roswell and Capitol Records, became a benchmark for post-grunge. It was a commercially successful album, ranking among the best-selling rock albums of 1997 and 1998, and received a nomination for Best Rock Album at the Annual Grammy Awards. Dave Grohl, who had formed the band in 1994 after his time with Nirvana and Scream, recruited for this stage Pat Smear on guitar, Nate Mendel on bass, and William Goldsmith on drums, thus consolidating the full lineup.
