The story behind
Waiting, according to DoReSol
The song Waiting by Green Day, released in 2001, deviates from their more characteristic punk sound to explore a melody that some have compared to Petula Clark's Downtown. The track, which is the tenth on the album Warning, reached number 26 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart. The band, made up of Billie Joe Armstrong on guitar and vocals, Mike Dirnt on bass and backing vocals, and Tré Cool on drums and backing vocals, recorded this piece in 2000 at Studio 880 in Oakland, California. The production was handled by the band themselves, with Ken Allardyce as recording engineer and Jack Joseph‐Puig on mixing.
The music video for Waiting, directed by Marc Webb, shows Green Day playing in a house while a group of young people celebrate around them, breaking objects and moving in slow motion. At certain moments, the partygoers stop completely, creating a striking visual effect. This single, in addition to appearing on Warning, was also part of the compilation International Superhits! released in 2001. The song's composition is attributed to Green Day and Tony Hatch, with lyrics written by Billie Joe Armstrong. The album Warning, released in October 2000, marked a shift in the band's sound, incorporating acoustic elements and pop and folk styles, distancing themselves from their previous punk rock sound.
