The story behind

Castaway, according to DoReSol

In *Castaway*, we find a character who feels completely isolated, without anyone's support, not knowing where they are going or how to get there, but strangely indifferent to that situation. The song uses the figure of the castaway as a metaphor for that loneliness.

This theme is part of *Warning*, the sixth studio album by Green Day, released on October 3, 2000. For this work, the band, made up of Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and Tré Cool, moved away from their characteristic punk rock sound. Instead, they explored acoustic elements, incorporating influences from pop and folk. The album's lyrics, in general, present more optimistic and inspiring themes when compared to their previous works. The recording of *Warning* featured engineering by Ken Allardyce and mixing by Jack Joseph‐Puig, while production was handled by the band themselves. Although Rob Cavallo was not the main producer on this occasion, he did participate and was credited as executive producer. Despite divided opinions on this change of style, the album received mostly positive reviews, highlighting the songwriting of Billie Joe Armstrong. The duration of *Castaway* is 3:53.
