The story behind
The song *F.O.D. / All by Myself* by Green Day, with its 5:47 duration, is a piece that condenses an important part of the band's history. It was recorded in 1993 at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California, and was included in their third studio album, which marked their debut with a major record label. This work, titled Dookie, was released on February 1, 1994. Most of the lyrics were written by singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, exploring themes such as apathy, restlessness, relationships, and sexuality, based on his personal experiences.
The recording of Dookie represented the first time Green Day worked with producer Rob Cavallo, who also participated in the mixing alongside Jerry Finn and the band itself. The recording engineers were Neill King and Casey McCrankin. The album was promoted with singles such as *Longview*, *Basket Case*, a new version of *Welcome to Paradise* (originally from the 1991 album Kerplunk), and *When I Come Around*. Before consolidating as Green Day in 1989 under the name Sweet Children, the band was formed in 1986 in Berkeley, California, with Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt, and drummer John Kiffmeyer, who was later replaced by Tré Cool.
