The story behind
Are We the Waiting, according to DoReSol
In *Are We the Waiting*, the narrative of the album *American Idiot* takes an introspective turn. The song functions as a soliloquy from the main character, Jesus of Suburbia, who reflects on his current situation. It is presented as a slow-paced track, marked by a heavy percussion that, along with the lyrics, suggests the beginning of a mental disorientation in the protagonist. It continues to explore the loneliness already felt in the previous track, showing how Jesus perceives himself as lost in the city he has arrived in.
The recording of this work, the seventh studio album by Green Day, took place between 2003 and 2004. It was carried out in two studios in California: Studio 880 in Oakland and Ocean Way Recording in Hollywood. The album, conceived as a "punk rock opera", tells the story of Jesus of Suburbia, a young man who represents the disillusionment and discontent of a generation marked by events such as September 11 and the Iraq War. The production of the record was handled by Rob Cavallo, working alongside the band. The recording engineers included Joe Brown, Greg Burns, Chris Dugan, Jimmy Hoyson, Doug McKean, Reto Peter, and Brian Vibberts, while the mixing was done by Dmitar Krnjaic and Chris Lord-Alge.
