The sound that defines Romances is nourished by the so-called "Silvetti Sound," described as a combination of captivating melodies, generous string arrangements, acoustic instrumentation, and unpretentious romanticism. Bebu Silvetti, known for his creative approach, sought to reinvent his own arrangements rather than repeat them. Armando Manzanero, for his part, provided the songs, leaving Luis Miguel the freedom to choose which ones to record. To bring these interpretations to life, 61 musicians from the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra were enlisted, adding an orchestral dimension to the recordings.
The impact of Romances was significant. It is estimated to have sold over 4.5 million copies, earning platinum certifications in the United States, Spain, and various parts of Latin America. For its promotion, a tour was organized that covered these same territories. Critics recognized Luis Miguel's vocal quality and the careful selection of songs. The album was also honored with a Grammy award in the United States. Singles from this production included Por debajo de la mesa, El reloj, Contigo, De quererte así, Bésame mucho, Sabor a mí, and Encadenados.
