Aries

When Luis Miguel set out to create Aries, released in 1993, he was coming off the back of a resounding success with Romance, an album that had revitalized the bolero genre and sold millions of copies worldwide, even earning gold certifications in places like Brazil and the United States. However, the artist sought to explore other sounds, distancing himself from classic ballads to delve back into a style reminiscent of his earlier work: a mix of pop, jazz, dance, and R&B touches. The gestation of Aries was an intense process; Luis Miguel was deeply involved in every stage, from the selection of songs and melodies to production, working with composers such as Kiko Cibrián, Rudy Pérez, David Foster, and Juan Luis Guerra. The recording, which began in July 1992, spanned nearly a year, marked by challenges such as a considerable budget, the loss of his father, and an appendectomy, but the result was an album that aimed to reflect his personal vision.

About the album

Aries, according to DoReSol

Eight singles were released from Aries, which helped shape its dissemination. The first cuts, Ayer and Hasta que me olvides, managed to top the Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart, demonstrating the public's connection with these new offerings. The third single, Suave, also had a good reception, reaching ninth place. The album itself resonated strongly in the market, topping the Billboard Latin Pop Albums chart for nineteen weeks. In terms of sales, Aries was a success, achieving triple platinum in Mexico with over a million copies sold and diamond in Argentina. By the year 2000, global sales exceeded two million units. Although critics had divided opinions regarding the combination of dance tracks and ballads, Luis Miguel's vocal performance and the album's arrangements were widely praised, culminating in the recognition of the Grammy Award for Best Latin Pop Album.
