Segundo romance

When Luis Miguel released Segundo romance in August 1994, he was already coming off a resounding success with Romance, his 1991 bolero album. This new work, also known as Romance II, continued to explore that universe of Latin ballads, this time with songs that had been published between 1934 and 1993. The production was a joint effort, with Luis Miguel leading alongside Juan Carlos Calderón, Kiko Cibrian, and Armando Manzanero, who had already collaborated on the previous album. Recording sessions took place in mid-1994 at Record Plant studios in Los Angeles, California, and the album was promoted with a tour through the United States and Latin America.

About the album

Segundo romance, according to DoReSol

The reception of Segundo romance was very positive. Critics highlighted the quality of the production, Luis Miguel's vocal performance, and the careful selection of songs. The album managed to keep the bolero genre's popularity alive, just as its predecessor had done. In fact, the album won a Grammy Award in the category of "best Latin pop album." Several important singles were released from this work. "El día que me quieras" and "La media vuelta" reached the top spot on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart in the United States. Other songs like "Todo y nada" and "Delirio" also had a good reception on the same chart.

This album was a great commercial success, selling over 4 million copies in 1995 alone and achieving multiple platinum certifications in countries across Latin America, the United States, and Spain. It positioned itself as one of the best-selling Latin albums of the year and, by the 1990s, was the most successful Latin album by a male artist. The particularity of Segundo romance lies in its ability to reinterpret classics while maintaining the essence of Latin ballads, and its impact on the continuation of Luis Miguel's legacy in this musical style.
