The impact of Con el corazón en la mano was notable. Around 50,000 copies were sold, a considerable figure for a Colombian artist at that time, which catapulted them to national tours and consolidated them as a revelation. The song Sortilegio was recognized some time later as one of the best in Colombian rock, and Mujer gala became an anthem, being highlighted by Rolling Stone in 2014 among Colombia's most important songs. The album cover, with a drawing of a tiger typical of 80s Bogotá transport, and the back cover showing the four members holding a heart, reflected the unique identity the band was beginning to forge.
This first album emerged after a previous journey in the underground scene, when some of its members were part of "Delia y los Aminoácidos". The definitive push to record the album came when an almost homemade version of Mujer Gala began to play on some radios, generating such interest that BMG quickly signed them. The success of these songs was such that, in the same year, several of them were included in Nuestro Rock, a project by Philips and Radioactiva that brought together ten emerging Colombian groups, thus consolidating Aterciopelados' place in the music scene.
