The story behind
Se parapeta, according to DoReSol
The first album by Aterciopelados, Con el corazón en la mano, sounds urgent: sharp guitars, voices that pierce and a rhythm that demands attention. «Se parapeta» is one of those songs that grabs you from the first chord, with an air between rebellious and playful that repeats throughout the album. It sounds like Bogotá in the 90s, like garage rehearsals with walls that vibrated, like something recorded quickly but left behind forever. It has just the right length, two minutes and change, as if the song had been written in one night and recorded the next without losing its freshness.
They recorded it at Studio Master Producciones in 1993, between March and May according to the era's calendar. Juan Antonio Castillo handled production and Richard Blair the mixing, and the result was an album that sold around 50,000 copies at a time when that was a milestone for any Colombian artist. The song isn’t alone on the album: it shares space with other tracks that also made a strong impact, like Mujer gala or Sortilegio, but «Se parapeta» has that something that makes it stand out even among hits. It’s not just another song on Con el corazón en la mano: it’s proof that sometimes authenticity doesn’t need more than two minutes to leave its mark.
