The story behind
On Aterciopelados's first album, titled Con el Corazón en la Mano, we find a track that, with its short duration of just one minute and thirty-nine seconds, condenses a particular energy. This song, La gomela, was recorded and mixed in Bogotá, at the Studio Master Producciones facilities, during the spring of 1993. The production of this debut album was handled by Juan Antonio Castillo, while the mixing duties fell to Richard Blair.
This work marked the beginning of Aterciopelados as one of the most recognized rock groups in Latin America. The punk spirit can be felt in several of the album's compositions, which also saw the birth of some of the first songs that resonated in the local scene, such as Mujer gala, La cuchilla, and Sortilegio. The album, at the time, achieved sales close to 50,000 copies, a considerable figure for a Colombian artist of that era.
