The story behind
In La sirena, Aterciopelados immerses us in a sonic atmosphere that, although part of their first album, already hinted at the identity that would make them resonate in Latin America. The song, with a duration of 3 minutes and 26 seconds, is an example of how the band built its path from its beginnings. The complete album, Con el corazón en la mano, was an important starting point, recorded and mixed in Bogotá during the spring of 1993 at Studio Master Producciones. The production of this debut work was in the hands of Juan Antonio Castillo, and the mixing task fell to Richard Blair.
This first album, released in 1993, not only marked the beginning of Aterciopelados' career but also proved to be a commercial success, selling around 50,000 copies, a considerable figure for a Colombian artist at that time. The punk spirit that characterized the band is manifested in several of the compositions on this record, where the first songs that would capture the public's attention were already glimpsed, such as Mujer gala, La cuchilla, and Sortilegio.
