More about Scorpions
Biography
Most Scorpions are not dangerous to humans. Only a few have enough venom to kill, and that happens more in places where there is no medical attention. Although they are dangerous, they are not common in daily life. In culture, they appear in myths, in crafts and in symbols. For example, there is a zodiac sign called Scorpio, and in Greek mythology, a scorpion and a hunter became opposite constellations.
The name scorpion comes from an ancient word that was used in Latin and then spread to other languages. It is said to have come from a non-Indo-European language, similar to Hebrew. Fossils of these animals have been found in different geological layers, from the Silurian to the Triassic. Some of the oldest ones were discovered in Scotland and in the Jordan desert. Over time, scorpions evolved from marine animals to terrestrial ones, and today they are part of the fauna of many places.
