Love at First Sting

When Scorpions released Love at First Sting in 1984, they already had a history in the hard rock and heavy metal scene. This album, which came out in February in the United States under Mercury Records and in March in the United Kingdom with Harvest Records, became a key point for the band. The sound they defined here moves between heavy metal, hard rock, and glam metal, with production by Dieter Dierks at Dierks Studios in Stommeln, Germany. The recording sessions had a particular moment in 1983, with the participation of musicians like Jimmy Bain on bass and Bobby Rondinelli on drums, although they ultimately did not appear on the final cut of the album.

This album is notable for including songs that became very well-known, such as Rock You Like a Hurricane, Still Loving You, and Big City Nights. Rock You Like a Hurricane reached number 25 on the Billboard Hot 100, while Still Loving You reached number 64 on the same chart, in addition to performing well in Germany and France. The success in the United States was significant, reaching number 6 on the Billboard 200 and achieving double platinum certification that same year, reaching triple platinum in 1995.

The album's imagery also generated attention. The original cover, by German company Kochlowski with a photograph by Helmut Newton, had to be modified for distribution in some store chains in the United States due to complaints. An alternative version was chosen, showing a photo of the band members, the same one that appeared inside the record. The songwriting is mostly by Klaus Meine on lyrics and Rudolf Schenker on music, with contributions from Herman Rarebell on some tracks.
