From the Inside

When Laura Pausini set out to release her first album entirely in English, the result was From the Inside, released in November 2002. This work, which featured the participation of songwriters such as Andreas Carlsson and Patrick Leonard, a collaborator of Madonna, aimed to explore a sound closer to pop and dance-pop. The production, which spanned from June 2001 to May 2002, shaped twelve songs that, for the most part, aligned with the pop genre, although some like "Love Comes From The Inside" and "I Do 2 Be" deviated from that line. Curiously, two of the tracks, "It's Not Goodbye" and "Every Day Is a Monday", had already been presented previously in Italian and Spanish, with the latter originally written in English and later adapted.

About the album

From the Inside, according to DoReSol

The promotional strategy of Atlantic Records for From the Inside focused on positioning the single "Surrender" as a danceable track, which, thanks to its remixes, allowed it to reach number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart. A similar achievement was obtained by the second single, "If That's Love". However, in the United States, the album did not achieve the expected success by Pausini, selling around 33,000 copies according to Nielsen-Soundscan. The singer felt that the promotion by Atlantic Records did not fit her style, as it focused on dance music instead of a more adult audience.

Given the record label's refusal to change the strategy, Pausini decided to pause promotion in that market and return to Italy, leaving the album's development in Europe, where it continued to be promoted for a few months. Years later, in 2011, demos of songs like "For Your Love" and "Kiss Kiss" emerged on the internet. Pausini confirmed that they were test recordings for From the Inside that did not make it to the final version. It is speculated that "Kiss Kiss" was discarded for not entirely fitting her vocal style. In 2016, Pausini would release Laura Xmas, her next album in English.
