The story behind
It’s Not Good‐Bye, according to DoReSol
When Laura Pausini crossed the threshold of recording her first album entirely in English, From the Inside was not just a language change: it was the moment when a ballad like It’s Not Good-Bye proved that distance isn’t always measured in kilometers. The song was born as It’s Not Goodbye in its Italian and Spanish versions, but when adapted to English, it lost that air of forced farewell present in the originals. Here, goodbye becomes lighter, as if the time between notes isn’t enough to fully close the chapter. The melody plays with a chorus that repeats effortlessly, almost like a whisper insisting that something remains unsaid, even after the last word.
The album was recorded in 2002 with a team of producers who had already worked with names like Madonna, and that’s noticeable in its polished pop pulse without artifice. Andreas Carlsson, K. C. Porter and Patrick Leonard —the latter known for shaping 80s hits— gave the song that balance between freshness and nostalgia that made it stand out on the charts. It wasn’t luck: From the Inside debuted with two singles at number one on the Billboard, and It’s Not Good-Bye slipped in among them as one of the tracks best representing that moment of transition. By the time she won the Latin Grammy in 2005 for Escucha and the American Grammy the following year for the same album, it was clear that Pausini hadn’t just conquered another market—she had done so with songs that sounded like the future without leaving behind her Italian essence.
