Audioslave

When Chris Cornell and the instrumental members of Rage Against the MachineTom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk— joined forces in 2001, Audioslave was born. The band's initial proposal, formed in Glendale, California, was seen by many as an amalgamation of the sounds from their previous projects. However, as time passed and their second album, Out of Exile, was released, it became clear they had forged their own voice. Their style drew from the power of 70s hard rock and the energy of 90s alternative rock, but also incorporated nuances of 60s funk, soul, and R&B. A distinctive characteristic of their sound was its fidelity to an organic feel, where all musical textures came directly from guitars, bass, drums, and Cornell's voice, which displayed an impressive vocal range, complemented by Morello's original guitar solos.

Audioslave's trajectory, though intense, lasted six years. During that time, they released three studio albums: Audioslave (2002), Out of Exile (2005), and Revelations (2006). Their music resonated globally, selling over eight million copies and earning three Grammy nominations. A notable milestone in their career was becoming the first American rock band to perform an outdoor concert in Cuba. The band came to an end in February 2007, when Chris Cornell announced his decision to leave the group, marking the close of an era.

More about Audioslave

Biography

Years later, in January 2017, Audioslave reunited for a special performance at the Anti-Inaugural Ball hosted by Prophets of Rage. Sadly, Chris Cornell's passing in May of that same year definitively closed the door on any possibility of future reunions. The band's genesis dates back to the separation of Rage Against the Machine in October 2000, following the departure of their vocalist. The remaining members, seeking a new direction, explored various collaborations. It was producer Rick Rubin who suggested the union with Chris Cornell, who was coming off the dissolution of Soundgarden in 1997. The chemistry between them was instantaneous, composing 21 songs in just 19 days of rehearsal, a testament to the creative connection that united them from the very beginning.
