The story behind
The song Bring Em Back Alive, with its 5:29 duration, is a piece that invites immersion into the raw energy of a supergroup. It was conceived at a particular moment for the musicians who created it. Following Zack de la Rocha's departure from Rage Against the Machine, the remaining members sought a new vocalist. It was producer Rick Rubin who suggested contacting Chris Cornell, showcasing his talent with the song Slaves & Bulldozers by Soundgarden. At the time, Cornell was working on material for a solo album, but the proposal to join Tom Morello and the rest of the Rage Against the Machine band opened a new path.
This project, formalized in Los Angeles, California, in 2001, brought together Chris Cornell on guitar, Tom Morello on guitar, Tim Commerford on bass and backing vocals, and Brad Wilk on drums. Initially, their sound was described as a fusion of Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine, but over time, especially after their second album, Out of Exile, the band managed to forge its own sonic identity. This identity was built by combining 70s hard rock with 90s alternative rock, enriched by Morello's distinctive guitar solos. The members took pride in not using samples, basing their recordings solely on the sounds of guitar, bass, drums, and vocals captured in the studio. The debut album, Audioslave, released on November 18, 2002, through Epic Records and Interscope Records, was certified triple platinum in the United States and spawned singles such as Cochise, Like a Stone, Show Me How to Live, I Am the Highway, and What You Are. In fact, Like a Stone received a nomination for the Grammy Awards.
