The story behind
The song *Getaway Car* by Audioslave, with its five-minute duration, unfolds as a piece that invites sonic immersion. The band's characteristic sound, which fused the power of 70s hard rock with the energy of 90s alternative rock, is present here. It is interesting to note how the members of Audioslave, in their creative process, emphasized the exclusive use of real instruments —guitar, bass, drums, and vocals—, completely avoiding the use of samples in their studio recordings. This approach sought to capture a raw authenticity in each track.
This track emerges in the context of the formation of Audioslave, an American supergroup that was born in Los Angeles, California, in 2001. After Zack de la Rocha's departure from Rage Against the Machine, the remaining musicians sought a new vocalist. Producer Rick Rubin suggested contacting Chris Cornell, known for his work with Soundgarden, and showed them the song *Slaves & Bulldozers* to illustrate his talent. At that time, Cornell was working on material for a solo album, but the proposal to join Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Brad Wilk led him to become part of this new project. Audioslave's debut album, released on November 18, 2002, included singles such as *Cochise* and *Like a Stone*, the latter receiving a nomination for the Grammy Awards.
