The story behind
The song *Light My Way* by Audioslave stands out for its duration, extending for just over five minutes, allowing the instrumentation to develop and breathe. The band's sound, formed in 2001 in Los Angeles, California, emerged from the union of Chris Cornell's vocals, from Soundgarden, with the rhythm section of Rage Against the Machine: Tom Morello on guitar, Tim Commerford on bass, and Brad Wilk on drums. This combination sought to fuse the energy of 1970s hard rock with the textures of 1990s alternative rock, an approach that is clearly perceived in the way Morello's guitar intertwines with the solid rhythm section.
The debut album by Audioslave, released in November 2002 through Epic Records and Interscope Records, was an important starting point for the supergroup. Singles such as *Cochise*, *Like a Stone* —which received a nomination for the Grammy Awards in the Best Hard Rock Performance category—, *Show Me How to Live*, *I Am the Highway*, and *What You Are* were released from this record. The band's gestation occurred after Zack de la Rocha left Rage Against the Machine, and it was producer Rick Rubin who suggested the idea of joining forces with Chris Cornell, showcasing his talent with Soundgarden's song *Slaves & Bulldozers*. At that time, Cornell was working on material for a second solo album, demonstrating the convergence of paths that led to the formation of Audioslave.
