Engenheiros do Hawaii

Engenheiros do Hawaii started as a group of friends who played together in a courtyard. Four guys who studied architecture at UFRGS, Humberto Gessinger, Carlos Stein, Marcelo Pitz and Carlos Maltz, got together in the early 80s. The first time they played was in 1985, at Humberto's house, with Stein and a friend who also played guitar. The name, Engenheiros do Hawaii, was a joke: it referred to engineering students who wore surf shorts.

The band moved between rock and pop, with an energy that made them stand out. They released more than twenty albums, from live albums to compilations. They sold more than three million copies. In 1990, they participated in the Hollywood Rock, in Rio and São Paulo, with the album O Papa é Pop. The concert was considered one of the best of the night, although opinions varied.

More about Engenheiros do Hawaii

Biography

In 1991, at the Rock in Rio II, the Engenheiros do Hawaii show sold the most albums. Although some criticized it, a critic from The New York Times praised it. The lineup of Gessinger, Licks and Maltz was the most famous, from A Revolta dos Dândis to Gessinger, Licks Y Maltz. Pitz left before the second album, and Humberto had to play bass.

The band remained active until the 90s, with a style that defined them. They were not the only group of that time, but their way of playing and their energy made them remembered.
