The story behind
Eu Ligo Pra Você, according to DoReSol
Eu Ligo Pra Você sounds like an unexpected detour in the career of Engenheiros do Hawaii. Recorded in 1986, when Brazilian rock was still searching for its identity, this song breaks away from the more aggressive sound the band would later develop. Humberto Gessinger's bass carries the rhythm with a groove that sways between ska and reggae, something uncommon in rock at the time. It's neither an epic track nor a ballad: it's a short, direct piece where irony and resourcefulness make every note count. The album Longe Demais Das Capitais was recorded in just four weeks at RCA studios in São Paulo, between May and June 1986.
It was the band's debut and their only album with their original lineup before Marcelo Pitz left the bass in 1987. Eu Ligo Pra Você gained radio exposure thanks to its inclusion in two soap operas and a music video, which was not yet common for a new band at the time. It lasted 3:37, just enough to leave a mark without overstaying its welcome.
