More about Legião Urbana
Biography
The first album, released in 1985, already showed that duality between social criticism and love songs that touched so many. Tracks like Será or Ainda é cedo became fundamental. Then came Dois in 1986, an album that, despite initially being conceived as a double, ended up being a single but loaded with hits like Tempo Perdido, Eduardo e Mônica, and Índios. This album, considered by many to be the most romantic, sold over a million copies. The material that would form Que País É Este 1978/1987, released later, has an interesting story, as many of its songs came from that aborted project called Mitologia e Intuição, and seven of them were from Aborto Elétrico, consolidating their more punk sound. Then, As Quatro Estações, from 1989, is pointed to by many as their peak work, with a large number of songs that became classics.
The band's activity came to an end eleven days after the death of Renato Russo, on October 11, 1996. However, the musical legacy endures. In later years, Dado Villa and Marcelo Bonfá revisited part of the repertoire, presenting tours like "Legião Urbana XXX Anos," celebrating the anniversary of their first album and then exploring subsequent works. Legião Urbana's music continues to resonate, and it is estimated that they have sold millions of records, consolidating themselves as a benchmark in Brazilian music.
