The story behind
Daniel Na Cova Dos Leões, according to DoReSol
The song Daniel Na Cova Dos Leões, with music by Renato Rocha and Renato Russo, is from the second studio album by Legião Urbana, titled Dois, released on July 20, 1986. This album, released by EMI, has been recognized on various important Brazilian music lists. For example, Rolling Stone Brasil magazine ranked it 21st on its list of the 100 best albums in Brazil. Later, in September 2012, the audience of Eldorado FM radio and readers of the portal Estadao.com, along with the Caderno C2+Música section of the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo, voted it the third best Brazilian album of all time. While Tempo Perdido was one of the major hits of this work, other tracks like Eduardo e Mônica, Índios, and Quase sem Querer also achieved notable popularity.
Legião Urbana, originally from Brasília, Brazil, was active between 1982 and 1996, leaving a legacy of thirteen albums and over twenty million records sold. Even today, the band remains the third highest-selling EMI-Odeon catalog artist worldwide, averaging around two hundred thousand copies sold monthly. The group's end came after the death of its leader and vocalist, Renato Russo, in October 1996. In a reflection from 1994, Renato Russo commented on his artistic approach: "We never followed trends. We don't make rock because it's trendy. There might have been a moment, which was the discovery by the press, of empathy and big shows. It doesn't satisfy me. It interferes with my privacy, with how I see myself as an artist and a citizen. We also don't do television, but we continue to play. We might not be in the top ten, but we are among the 20. With sales, it's the same. Rock is this: reaching people's hearts is not a yogurt advertisement."
