The story behind
Sweet Begonia, according to DoReSol
The first time Engenheiros do Hawaii presented themselves to the world was with Longe Demais Das Capitais, an album they recorded in four weeks during May and June 1986 at the RCA studios in São Paulo. What stands out about this work is that its sound, marked by influences of ska and reggae, strays quite far from the direction the band would take in its subsequent productions. This album is also the only one to feature the group’s original lineup, as Marcelo Pitz would leave the formation in May 1987, being replaced by Augusto Licks, while Humberto Gessinger would take over on bass.
The release of Longe Demais Das Capitais in October 1986 was driven by the record label with a promotional strategy that included the release of a single, "Toda Forma de Poder", and the inclusion of two tracks in telenovela soundtracks, in addition to the production of two music videos. The band, formed in 1984 in Porto Alegre, was known for its ironic and critical lyrics. Humberto Gessinger, who remained the last original member until the group’s hiatus in 2008, was part of the initial lineup alongside Carlos Stein on guitar, Marcelo Pitz on bass, and Carlos Maltz on drums.
