Titãs

Titas started with a group of friends who used to gather to play at a school in São Paulo. The band was formed between 1981 and 1982, and at first had nine boys. Of those, six were singers: Arnaldo Antunes, Branco Mello, Ciro Pessoa, Paulo Miklos, Sérgio Britto and Nando Reis. Each had a role, but they also overlapped. At that time, the band sounded like a new wave pop, with a fresh style but not much depth.

In 1984, Ciro Pessoa left, and the band recorded their first album, Televisão, with Charles Gavin as the drummer. It was a decision that marked the beginning of something more solid. The album was produced by Lulú Santos, and although it wasn't a big sales success, it managed to get a song, Sonífera ilha, played on the radio. That was what opened the door to more shows and more attention.

Biography

The formation that became the most famous was solidified with Cabeça Dinossauro. At that moment, the band already had a clear identity: Nando Reis, Branco Mello, Arnaldo Antunes, Tony Bellotto, Marcelo Fromer, Paulo Miklos, Sérgio Britto and Charles Gavin. They were years of great activity, with five albums that made them one of the most important bands of Brazilian rock.

But the path wasn't easy. Over time, some left. In 1992, Arnaldo Antunes left to dedicate himself to his solo career. In 2001, Marcelo Fromer died in an accident. Then, Nando Reis also left, and in 2010, Charles Gavin left the band. Sometimes, the boys supported each other with external musicians, like Emerson Villani or Lee Marcucci, until in 2009, Branco took over the bass permanently. In 2018, they recorded Doze Flores Amarelas, their last album so far.
