The story behind

Família, according to DoReSol

The song Família by Titãs was born as an everyday portrait: babies crying, mothers chasing away cockroaches, teenagers begging to go out. Recorded at a time when the band was trying to shake off the sound of their previous album, it ended up becoming a sound portrait of what happens behind closed doors. Producer Liminha, who had just joined the sessions, sped it up and extended it without much warning to the musicians, who at first weren't entirely convinced by the result. But that change gave it a more direct air, as if the song breathed the same air as its lyrics.

The track appeared on Cabeça Dinossauro, the third album by Titãs released in June 1986, which marked their first gold record. The recordings took place at Nas Nuvens studio in Rio between March and April of that year, just as the band was trying to define a different path after internal tensions and the commercial setback of their previous album. Later, in 2013, Nando Reis —already out of the band — revived it with his sons Théo and Sebastião for the opening of season 21 of Malhação, where the three shared a single microphone in the style of The Beatles to reinforce that domestic feel. There were also versions for soap operas like Corpo Santo and even an opening theme for Tamanho Família performed by the group Família Lima between 2016 and 2020. The band Molejo even included it on their album Família. It lasted three minutes and thirty-five seconds in its final version.
