Chicago

Chicago was born in the city that bears its name, in 1967. At first, they were called "Chicago Transit Authority", but had to change their name due to a legal issue with the transportation company. It was a group of friends who came together at a music party, at the university, and started playing. Then more people joined, and eventually formed a team that remained fairly stable for a long time.

The group started out with a core of three boys who already played together, and others joined on stage. They were called "The Big Thing" at first, and later completed with more musicians. It was one of them, Robert Lamm, who took them on a tour to Los Angeles, where they became famous under the name of Chicago Transit Authority.

More about Chicago

Biography

A producer named James William Guercio took charge of them. He had already worked with another band, but decided to leave producing his first album to help Chicago. The first album was called Chicago Transit Authority, and it was a double album. It featured songs that blended rock, blues and jazz, with a sound that wasn't often heard before. Some of those songs became references, such as "I'm a man", which a DJ used for a remix that marked the beginning of disco music.

The album had a big impact and sold well, allowing them to go on tour across Europe. In Spain, due to the record label's reasons, it was published as two separate albums. The second album, Chicago II, included songs that became hits, such as "25 or 6 to 4". There were also long and complex suites, which showed the band's creativity.

The third album, Chicago III, followed the same line, but didn't have the same commercial success as the previous ones. Although there wasn't a big hit, the album sold well and showed the evolution of the band. In each album, it was noticeable how their sounds were developing and adapting to what music at that time allowed them to explore.
