REO Speedwagon

REO Speedwagon began in Illinois, in the early sixties. The band was born from a university dorm room, from an improvised practice night between friends. Neil Doughty, a guy who studied electrical engineering, played piano and already knew some Beatles songs. He joined Alan Gratzer, who played drums and had been in bands before. Together they started experimenting, playing at parties and bars on campus.

The band's name came from an old truck, one that was called REO Speed Wagon. Doughty saw it written on a chalkboard, in a university hallway, and kept it. He used it as a name, spelled it as if it were a word, as if it were a nickname. Thus the band was born, with a touch of humor and a bit of casualness.

Biography

Years later, in the eighties, the band reached its peak. They played songs that got stuck in people's heads, like «Keep on loving you» and «Can't fight this feeling». Some reached number one on the charts. The album Hi infidelity was the only one that managed to reach the top of Billboard 200. At that time they also had a strong presence in Latin America, with tours that took them to several countries.

Today they still play, although they don't release albums as frequently. In 2007 Find your own way home came out, an album that marked a point in their history. They are one of those bands that have been playing for more than half a century, without dissolving, without stopping. Some of the members, like Neil Doughty, have been there since the beginning. Others came later, but there was always someone who stayed.
