Eagles

When we think of Eagles, a very particular sound comes to mind, the one that defines California country rock. They started in 1971 in Los Angeles, mixing bluegrass instrumentation with Californian rock harmonies. Initially, their songs spoke of life on the road, relationships, and that feeling of being a bit adrift, all wrapped in sensitive ballads and a touch of pop rock. The group managed to capture the essence of the singer-songwriters of the era, but with a twist of careful arrangements and great musical skill. Over time, they began to leave behind the more traditional bluegrass instrumentation to embrace a more powerful and rock-oriented sound.

The band was formed by Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon, and Randy Meisner, who had already worked together backing Linda Ronstadt. Their first album, Eagles, was released in 1972 and spawned tracks like _Take It Easy_ and _Witchy Woman_. The next, Desperado (1973), although it didn't have the same initial impact, already showed an evolution. It was in 1974 that Don Felder joined, and with him came the album On the Border, which included _Already Gone_ and their first number one in the United States and Canada, _Best of My Love_. 1975 was a key year with One of These Nights, their first album to reach the top spot in the United States and which was heard on charts in several countries, with singles like _One of These Nights_ and _Lyin’ Eyes_. That same year, Bernie Leadon left the band and was replaced by Joe Walsh.

More about Eagles

Biography

The impact of Eagles was consolidated with the compilation album Greatest Hits (1971–1975) in 1976, which became the best-selling album in the United States. Shortly after, they released Hotel California, an album that sold millions of copies and from which two number-one singles emerged, including the iconic title track, which resonated in Europe and Oceania. In 1977, Timothy B. Schmit replaced Randy Meisner. Their last work before a long hiatus was The Long Run (1979), from which the hit _Heartache Tonight_ was released. After a split in 1980, the band reunited in 1994 to release Hell Freezes Over, a mix of live tracks and new recordings, and since then they have maintained a connection with their audience through tours. In 2007, they released Long Road Out of Eden, their sixth number-one album in the United States, and embarked on the Long Road Out of Eden Tour. In 2013, they began the extensive History of the Eagles Tour, coinciding with the release of a documentary about their career. After the passing of Glenn Frey in 2016, the band continued with Deacon Frey, Glenn's son, and Vince Gill at the helm, who shared lead vocals. Deacon Frey left the band in 2022 but returned in 2023 for the final tour. Sadly, Randy Meisner passed away in 2023.
