The Resistance

Muse released The Resistance in September 2009. It was their first album recorded in Italy, in a studio in Como. There they worked from September 2008 until May of the following year. The sound mixes rock with more complex elements, such as orchestras and electronic music. The lyrics moved between political themes and things that weigh on the mind.

About the album

The Resistance, according to DoReSol

The album was promoted with three songs: Uprising, Undisclosed Desires and Resistance. The longest part is Exogenesis, a set of three tracks that lasts more than thirteen minutes. It talks about a journey to space, of humans who trust astronauts to save the species. In the end, the astronauts discover that everything is a cycle, and that without changes, everything repeats.

The album received good reviews, although some found it exaggerated. It won a Grammy in 2010 for best rock album. It sold over five million copies and reached number one in nineteen countries. In the recording, Muse handled the production, and they used a lot of instruments, including an orchestra of over forty musicians.
