The story behind
The song I Belong to You (+ Mon cœur s’ouvre à ta voix) by Muse is a fascinating example of how the band expanded its sound, fusing rock with orchestral and electronic elements. Recorded between September 2008 and May 2009 in their own studio in Como, Italy, this piece stands out for its ambition, incorporating a structure reminiscent of a three-part symphony, which is titled Exogenesis and has a duration of 13 minutes. The album it is included on, The Resistance, released on September 14, 2009, was produced by the band itself, with Adrian Bushby and Tommaso Colliva as recording engineers, and mixing handled by Matthew Green and Mark “Spike” Stent.
The Resistance not only explored orchestral music but also delved into lyrical themes influenced by politics and more complex issues. The band, composed of Matt Bellamy, Dominic Howard, and Christopher Wolstenholme, had already demonstrated their ability to mix genres, but on this work, they took experimentation to a new level. The album was promoted with singles such as Uprising and Undisclosed Desires, and a part of the symphony, Exogenesis: Symphony, had a special vinyl release.
