The story behind

The first time you hear *Undisclosed Desires*, you notice something different. It's not the typical guitar explosion from Muse. Here, the focus is on a rhythm driven by electronic drum patterns and a bassline with a distinctive, almost playful touch, which Chris Wolstenholme humorously describes as something that "perhaps was never cool," but which simply worked on this song. Matthew Bellamy himself, who composed the piece, mentions that for this song he avoided playing guitar or piano, something unusual in his creative process. Instead, he relies on a sound that he associates with influences from contemporary R&B and echoes of David Bowie's *Ashes to Ashes*, highlighting the importance of syncopated rhythms and vocal melodies. The overall feeling is of something more restrained, with a "minimalist and danceable" vibe, as described by one publication.

This song, which was released as the second single from The Resistance on November 16, 2009, has a rather personal origin for Matt Bellamy. He himself has called it an intimate piece, focused on his romantic relationship, a kind of thematic respite after the geopolitical explorations of the rest of the album. The recording took place in 2009 at Bellini studio, located on Lake Como, Italy, as part of the creation process for The Resistance, an album that the band produced themselves. Although live, Bellamy often uses a keytar, the essence of *Undisclosed Desires* lies in that rhythmic and vocal construction that distinguishes it, becoming a notable success in Australia, where it achieved Platinum certification.
