The story behind
MK Ultra, according to DoReSol
When you dive into MK Ultra, you encounter a sound described as "electric," with "guitars that sound like spiders" weaving their notes. The song, which lasts 4 minutes and 8 seconds, is the seventh track on Muse's fifth studio album, titled The Resistance. The name of this track originates from Project MK-ULTRA, a CIA program that explored the use of drugs for mind control and interrogation. This album, The Resistance, was recorded between September 2008 and May 2009 in a studio in Como, Italy. The band handled the production, mixing Muse's characteristic rock with orchestral and electronic elements.
The album's lyrics address political themes and darker matters, and the album includes a three-part symphonic piece called Exogenesis. To promote The Resistance, the singles Uprising, Undisclosed Desires, and Resistance were released. The album was released by Warner Bros. Records and the band's own Helium-3 label.
