The story behind
Exogenesis: Symphony, Part 1: Overture, according to DoReSol
The piece Exogenesis: Symphony, Part 1: Overture is the introduction to a larger work within Muse's album The Resistance. This complete symphony, divided into three parts, was conceived as a central element of the record, exploring a fusion of rock with orchestral arrangements and electronic elements. The duration of this first part, the Overture, is 3 minutes and 31 seconds, setting the tone for what is to come.
The recording of The Resistance took place between September 2008 and May 2009 in the band's own studio in Como, Italy. The members Matt Bellamy, Dominic Howard, and Christopher Wolstenholme were in charge of production. The lyrics of the album, and by extension of this piece, were nourished by political themes and darker matters, reflecting Bellamy's interests in topics such as conspiracy and revolution. For the album's promotion, singles such as Uprising and Undisclosed Desires were released. The complete work Exogenesis: Symphony had a special vinyl release for Record Store Day.
