The story behind
Exogenesis: Symphony, Part 3: Redemption, according to DoReSol
This piece, Exogenesis: Symphony, Part 3: Redemption, is the culmination of a larger work, a three-part symphony that is part of the album The Resistance. With a duration of 2 minutes and 54 seconds, this final section seeks to close a musical cycle. The band Muse, known for their ability to intertwine rock with orchestral and electronic elements, addresses political and social themes in The Resistance, exploring ideas of oppression and resistance. The complete symphony, titled Exogenesis, is a testament to that conceptual ambition, and this part, Redemption, represents the conclusion of that sonic narrative.
The recording of The Resistance took place between September 2008 and May 2009 in their own studio in Como, Italy. The production was handled by the band themselves, consisting of Matt Bellamy (vocals, guitar, keyboards), Dominic Howard (drums), and Christopher Wolstenholme (bass, keyboards). Morgan Nicholls also collaborated on keyboards and other instruments during live performances. The album, released in September 2009, was promoted with singles such as Uprising and Undisclosed Desires. The symphony Exogenesis, including this final part, was released on vinyl for Record Store Day. The band, originally from Teignmouth, England, formed in 1994 and has explored genres such as alternative rock, space rock, and progressive rock throughout their career, often reflecting interests in conspiracy, astrophysics, and the idea of a symbolic end of the world in their lyrics.
